As the Roman soldiers marched through Greece, they saw a lot of Greek art in the temples , and in the cemeteries, and in public squares and people's houses.

The Romans thought of the Greeks as being cooler than they were, so whatever the Greeks were doing in art, the Romans wanted some.

They brought home a lot of the Greek art they saw either by buying it or by stealing it, or maybe sometimes the Greeks gave it to them for presents , and they also brought back Greek sculptors often as slaves to make more art for them in Rome.

Ara Pacis Augustea , for example the Altar of Peace , shows a lot of influence from Greek art in the fancy swirls on the front, in the frieze which is so much like the Parthenon Frieze , and in the meanders underneath the frieze.

Girl Before a Mirror. The picture you've sees is painted by Plabo Picasso. He was born in Malaga, Spain on the 25th of October , known as one of the most influential artist of the twentieth century.

Her body is not thing of beauty in the painting, because Picasso wanted to show that perception changes everything. Picasso's girl may or may not be speculating about her allure, but she certainly is looking inward at a fragment self.

Picasso's girl is an abstraction, a woman removed from herself and from the viewers. Early twentieth century, the viewer believed that is the critical part of human motivation and directs humankind in ways that is not understandable.

This tension creates a fragment self, a lack of knowing part of the self. They felt fragmented from stability and a sense of the future.

Thus, the girl looking into her mirror does not see herself as she actually is. The viewer sees two different figures, one on the outside and the other a reflection.

But the reflection is a false image of a girl. She reaches out the towards the reflection, as if to embrace yet another part of herself that she sees in the mirror.

Monday, March 23, Graffiti - Vandalism or Art? The latest Wordpower Dictionary says graffiti is "unauthorized writing or drawing on a surface in a public place.

I think graffiti becomes vandalism when it's just simple tagging on walls just for the sake of it in the middle of nowhere.

It is a form of typography which is good in the right place and context. But when it's simply scrolled over high street walls along with loads of other 'tags' it looks messy and unskillful.

In fact, there are many different types of graffiti ranging from simple tagging bombing on walls to posting murals, signs or sculptures.

This link or this one or this is what I believe to be real graffiti art, which actually takes a lot of skill. Personally, I can only gives my opinion of what I believe right to be and that the graffiti can be a very 'cool' art form, and is actually an art rather than simple 'tags'.

Graffiti had begun, grows, and said had been considered an act of vandalism, but today graffiti is an art form.

I have heard of politicians, such as the major of the city, said are giving the city to graffiti artists. So, the main question people must wanted to know many more is whether the graffiti is a form art or vandalism?

My answer is both; vandalism and art. As stated early graffiti comes in many forms, not just simple 'tags'. I would say that graffiti is art unless it is done by a gang or by someone who has no style and is called a toy.

Toy mean an inexperienced or incompetent writer; someone whose writing is either wack, who uses sucker tips, or whose style is just plain cheesy. Then, it becomes vandalism.

People need to open their minds to the world of graffiti rather than just slating at a glance as with all things in life. The other of the hand should be considered before making a judgment.

Kika at PM 1 comment:. Monday, March 16, Art Forms. There is a lot of forms of art such as the art of music, poetry, and many others.

I must include many but i chose two form to describe. First is three-dimensional, people may calls as 3-D. Three-dimensional is relating to, having, or appearing to extension in depth.

For more information of three-dimensional, click here. It's have sculpture and architecture; both have the looks of three-dimensional. Sculpture is created by shaping and combining hard.

Sculpture have freestanding; completely detached from the background; all sides of the subject can be seen, and relief; attached to the background; it's usually the back of the subject that can not be seen.

Click here to view example of sculpture. Architecture is the profession of designing buildings, furnishings, examination, and remodeling as the drawing of what it's going to look like.

Click here for more information. Architecture is needed to have plan; a cut away view from the top, section; a cut away view from the side or front, and elevation; view of interior or exterior wall surfaces.

Anther form I will describe is the components of art. A component is any smaller; self-contained part of a larger entity, and of course we knows what does art mean.

So, as we put them together is mean the visual elements. The visual elements also means to see parts as can be seen as example sees many building, color, and everywhere that people could see in the whole world.

What are the elements of visual arts? There are seven elements that people might see is line, color, light, texture, space, perspective, and composition.

Line could be defines contours; most is the basic visual element. Monday, March 2, Two-Dimesional. Two-dimensional is having dimensions of height and width only, example a flat painting or a film with two-dimensional characters.

Two-dimensions' illusion are graphic art, painting, and drawing.

Schloss Einstein. Eine lausige Hexe. Feuerwehrmann Sam. Etruscan statues are also more human-looking, less perfect than Greek statues, and often funnier.

The Etruscans also built big temples for their gods like the Greeks. But Etruscan temples didn't look exactly like Greek temples. Etruscan temples were built up on high platforms, and they had steps only on the front, not all the way around.

Kika at PM No comments:. Wednesday, April 1, Roman Art. Roman art grows out of Etruscan art , and at first it is a lot like Etruscan art.

Because of this, it has a close relationship to Greek art as well. Roman art as a type of its own really gets going around BC with the beginning of the Roman Republic.

Roman people were particularly interested in portraiture: in making statues that really looked like one particular person, especially a famous person.

Greek people were more interested in ideals: what is the most beautiful man? But the Romans were more interested in reality.

A lot of people living in Rome seem to have believed, also, that having a good image of somebody's face was important to keeping their ghost happy after they died so they wouldn't haunt you.

So throughout the time of the Roman Republic and all the way through the Roman Empire we see a lot of portraits.

About BC, the Romans began conquering Greece, and this changed their art styles a lot. As the Roman soldiers marched through Greece, they saw a lot of Greek art in the temples , and in the cemeteries, and in public squares and people's houses.

The Romans thought of the Greeks as being cooler than they were, so whatever the Greeks were doing in art, the Romans wanted some.
